The inscription in the front of this family Bible given to me is a fascinating story in itself. “This was my great grandmother’s (Priscilla Dixon) Bible. It came into my possession through my grandmother Eve J Dixon Barrett
— wife of John Thomas Barrett (my grandfather). Hubert Bynum (colored) [sic] whose parents were slaves of my great grandmother gave this to me January 13, 1934. Clara Barrett Currie”. Clara Barrett Currie was my great-aunt.
donRedding > 21 19th Century Bible of a Deaconess - Joyce Allen

This Bible belonged to my great-great aunt, Annie Hart Logan, who was born in 1858. It is one of a collection of Bibles that belonged to my mother. Annie Hart was consecrated as a Deaconess in Cleveland, Ohio in 1896, and she continued in that work until her marriage in 1914 to my uncle, C. M. Logan. The Bible contains many notes and prayer cards that she used in her ministry in the Methodist Church
I met “Aunt Betsy” years ago when she was in her late eighties. She was a tall, formidable woman, and she was an impressive figure even at that age. Reading her Bible and the notes that she left in it have meant a lot to me and to my family.
