Background: On Labor Day weekend on 1962 I purchased the 1963 tr3b in Raleigh for about $2,600 and signed a note for 3 years of payments for $65.69. I was 25 years old and I thought making ok money but the $65 seemed large, and I worried about making payments for three years. I was (6/60 - 12/62) at Aerotron Inc, a manufacturer of 2 way radios for cars.
Shortly thereafter I began work at the Bank of America predcessor, North Carolina National Bank (01/07/63). My three children eventually all rode in the car, sometimes all at once, with two in the back and one in the front. At times some learned to drive in it. No seatbelts required, though I bought some from the JayCees in Raleigh and was one of the first to have them.
The Tr3B by Triumph is a solid car. it is a modified tractor engine of Triumph. Mine has been driven all up and down the east coast - Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, New York, etc., and has 137,000 miles on it. It has overdrive in the top 3 (of 4) gears, has a syncronized transmission (a big deal if you ever tried one not synchronized). I have repaired/replaced the clutch, steering column, overdrive, carburetors, front suspension, etc. I have put on several tonneau covers and convertable covers. I once had it painted every 3 or 4 years at Earl Shrib (sp?) for a minimum price, but unfortunately they are no longer in business.
The Id # is tcf919L0 - which to those familiar with tr's means it is one of the last 3b's built. The Tr2 was built from 1958 to about 1961, the 3's (a's and b's) from 1960 to 1963, and the tr4's from 1962 for a few years. My 3 has same transmission as the 4.
Folks ask if I am going to restore it; all I am trying to do is keep it running and safe and that is a big enough job.

(5/16/05) Eurotec on Wilkenson and Morehead called to say gas link was fixed for $123.70; earlier had called to say that all repairs were estimated to be $1,900 and I said just stop the gas link right now!
(4/17-12, 2005) Tr stayed at Wooodies a few days

and tried to stop gas leak; thought we had and took car on to Shue's Upholstery for installing the tonneau cover. While there it leaked too much gas, and on Tuesday the 12th, Duaine recommended Eurotec on Wilkenson and Morehead. Took car there and the owner David

will look it over and see what he can do with the leak and other things such as the horn and temperature guage.
Talked with Tim Corby around this time and learned he has found my hub caps, but the air cleaners were "too rusty."
(04/07/05) Tr was at Woodies with Duain (704 616-3812 or 275 9151) - do not need to inspect a car older than 35 years and do not need an inspection tag. Fixed leak at the intake line to fuel pump and now leak under the bowl. Need to work on the horn. leak under carburetor when one pushes gas. Duian got car to Shue's Upholstery (704 375 5636) to get the tonneau top installed. Was to see if could weld steering when spokes that were loose and also decide what filler to use to block the holes in bottom, as I used a filler which never hardened.I Called Tim Corby 704 536 9922 who had previously rebuilt the carb and fixed overdrive when I left it is the shop for 3-4 years. He has the hub caps but the air cleaners are gone - were rusty, etc . Plan is for me to get the car to Tim to work on leaks and other things we might need. Will need to leave car. His address is 9415 c Parkton 28215 Corby's British Car Works. Wrecker is (Ricky) 704 578 6967. Car has been sitting since about OCt 2004 as I thought the starter was bad; but when I began working on it the first of April and installed a new battery, it started and ran fine. dsr 4/7/05
